I am an idiot sometimes.

Sometimes, I will put in my contacts, and it's so nice to be able to see without adjusting my glasses, to look up just by rolling my eyes instead of tilting my head so I can see through the lenses, to be able to see how late I let myself sleep in each morning...

So I don't take them out for a month or two at a time.

I don't take them out until I can no longer produce tears at will to lubricate them.
And my eyes feel bruised after I take the contacts out. For days.

Sometimes, I do stupid things.

I have monthly disposable contacts, and sometimes I fall asleep in them but other than that I'm pretty good about taking them out. Mostly because I've got an irrational fear (eh, more like slight disgust at the thought) that they're either going to a) roll back behind my eye during REM, or b) get protein-y and stuck to my cornea forever :-s

Hey! Saw your comment on Warren Ellis' website (here: http://www.warrenellis.com/?p=7572). Nice!

Also, when I was in 9th grade, I slept with my contacts in all the time. And I don't have the kind where you can do that, I have to take them out every night. So one day I wake up, and my eye is pink. A few hours after, my whole eye is swollen. A couple of trips to the opthalmologist later, and we find out I had an ulcer in my eye, along with a corneal abrasion, which also got infected and infiltrated my eye. They said my contacts tended to get more brittle overnight (from not being lubricated), and when I woke up in the morning and rubbed my eyes to get the sleep out, my contact actually cut my cornea. It was gross.

Needless to say, I don't ever sleep with my contacts in anymore. And I'd recommend you'd learn my lesson as well, instead of having to deal with it on your own.
