From September through March, on the Audioshocker, I hosted an animation podcast alongside Nick (Audioshocker owner) and Justique (his amazing lady) called ANIMATIC ATTACK. It began with discussing a show we all fell for, The Legend of Korra (season 2), as well as an animated feature film (we even had a contest to win an advanced copy of Miyazaki's From Up on Poppy Hill. It also included a lot of incest. We coincidentally discussed incest in just about every episode (sometimes the actual subject, sometimes in passing).

Though this is my first time hosting a podcast, it's not my first time on the Audioshocker in general. I have guested on a few episodes of A Podcast With Ross and Nick, which later became A Podcast with Kaylie and Nick (on which I've also guested). Ross and Nick discussed episodes of the original X-Men animation, along with some random film, and Kaylie and Nick discussed episodes of ALF, as well as random films (most notably, though, the films of David DeCoteau, who makes porn and children's movies and awful stuff in between, all set in the same exact house. ALL of them).

Aside from Korra, we also watched From Up on Poppy Hill, La Leyenda de la Llorona, ParaNorman, Persepolis, Heman & Shera: the Secret of the Sword, and Jack et La Mécanique du Coeur. Other series watched were Welcome to the NKH, Koi Kaze, HammerMan, and The Critic (a surprising amount of incest in some of these).

What we do when we discuss shows and films is watch them a day or so beforehand, and take screencaps, which we share on our Tumblr accounts. I loved taking screencaps of Legend of Korra! Especially in the spirit world, the Wan episodes, and of Verrick and Eska!

I want to share my favourites, but I also want to share the links to the rest of the screencaps, because it's gonna be SO hard to just pick a few.

here we go! )

But alas, the Audioshocker is being put to rest, and so every podcast hosted will have their last hurrah by this weekend. Personally, I'm hoping for a couple of reunion episodes down the road.

You cannot kill self-made gods.

I took a 7 hour ride down to NYC last Saturday (the 23rd) to see the premiere of Jack and the Cuckoo-Clock Heart at the New York Int'l Children's Film Festival. The version I saw, sadly, was in English, but it was still worth it! My entire trip cost under a hundred dollars (I'm even including food in that price).

I arrived with a little over an hour to kill, so I first went to find the SVA Theatre (easy enough, as the bus dropped me off a block away). I found a delightful little 'shrewd fast food' vegan place called Blossom du Jour, which is in plain view of the theatre, and ducked in for some breakfast (Smoky Avocado wrap - avo, smoked tempeh, tomato, lettuce, and chipolte aioli - so delicious). I wandered off to the tail end of the garment district to a place supposedly called 'Early Halloween' but was actually a little antique thrift store, where I met a cheeky old-world woman selling loads of antique dolls. I didn't buy anything, and had to get back to the theatre anyway.

In the theatre, sponsors of the film festival were lined up giving away products, including a bunch of snacks and drinks. I nabbed a fizzy grapefruit-flavoured water and headed to the bathroom. I was about 10th in line outside the theater, but that trip to the bathroom put me about 90th in line, but it was well worth it, because I got front and center (not ideal for a normal theatre, but this one had a big stage between the screen and seats). I turned off my phone, checked out the programme handed to me,

and saw...

...the most amazing detail below the information for this specific screening...

Stéphane Berla, one of the two directors of the film, was there for a Q&A session (with translator). I would have probably soiled myself if Mathias Malzieu was there, too, but he couldn't make it. My heart needed winding after that, sitting front and center, two feet away from him, while he towered 6 feet above me on the stage. I attempted to get some attention to ask a question, but he wasn't the one picking people out, it was one of the hosts of the festival, who was choosing mostly children, but Stéphane answered every question fully and elegantly, covering just about everything. Even though I didn't get to ask my question, Stéphane would periodically look right at me, and give me a smile, and he even sent me a secret message: at one point, while his translator was translating what he'd just said, he looked at me and tapped his finger to the side of his chest, indicating that he liked my heart tattoo. My heart stopped. Time stopped. The world melted. I wanted the day to last forever.

And as we were all ushered out of the theatre, I flipped through the mental-rolodex to remember how to say certain phrases in French, so I could ask him if he could sign my programme. He thankfully knew enough English that I didn't need to embarrass myself too much, and he gladly signed it.

I could have cried.

As for the movie itself, check out [my review] on Letterboxd.

The Lost & Found box has rescued me from humiliation.

I got a great pair of trousers as a sort of birthday present to myself 'round October or November. They fit nicely, if only a little snug, and made me look taller and even slightly slimmer (due to the pinstripes). And I KNEW this would happen eventually, when I saw that the seam was stretching out to the point where you could actually see the needle-holes surrounding the thread on both sides of the seam.

I made it til about 10pm here at work, and I sat down in the chair with my leg curled under me (always a mistake wearing new boots with a course, rubber tread), and it was a silent death. I felt a cool air and knew what was coming for weeks had finally come. I had a small hole, actually, off center from the seam, oddly, like it was the pocket's seam that had ripped or something. And that small hole became a big hole, exposing half my backside and my (awesome) Batman underpants.

My first thought was to grab my coat, but it wasn't long enough, and then I remembered, wait! There is a big, flowy scarf in the Lost & Found box! And it was black-and-white, so it went nicely with my outfit when I wrapped it around my waist :)

My boss still doesn't know... I don't know if I'll tell him, but I feel like it's funny enough (and I'm not modest enough anyway) to share... after work lets out, so there is minimal time for him to rip on me (no pun intended) before tomorrow's shift.

Time again for awesome pictures I've found over the internet lately:

Physics:
Charles and I had an argument yesterday about String Theory, but it was short-lived because neither of us know too much about it to begin with ;) All I know is that it is brilliant and crap all at the same time.

My Physics class is simple, yet boring. We have finished with Chapter 1 (about Galileo and the Earth/Sun center of the world debates) and now we are in Chapter 2, Particle Physics (atoms, colliders, and the sort). I am getting very sick of my prof not being able to answer any of my (and some other students') quesions.

Physics Lab is finally getting interesting, although, I will probably never quite grasp motion graphs (velocity and acceleration). I was almost about ready to give up on it and just take a different lab (human dissection) next semester (which I will probably do anyway). Our lab experiment for next week is called Electric Currents I. I am excited :)

Unrelated I:
I gave blood again today. I scored a gallon pin, since I've been donating twice a year since I was a junior in high school (with a couple break between then and now due to new tattoos), so I must have hit a gallon mark somewhere in my generosity. I also felt rather sick after. Probably too much juice (they had delicious Capri Sun fruit punch juice. Yum!) and fig cookies. Charles took me out to eat afterward (but he may have just done that because he felt bad for an argument we had the day before). And then we came home to nap. He slept for a half-hour, I slept for... 6 hours >_<

Unrelated II:
I started playing PMOG again, and have found lots of ups and downs. On the upside, there are a tonne of new perks- including (a 10% chance of) being able to dodge mines, set up watchdogs to protect from mines, and finding more ways to collect DP. The downside... People are able to get and lay hundreds of mines at a time by cheating somehow, and that's no fun. I've found my profile page to be completely covered in mines from a player called innerlight and it's pissing me off. He also riddled me with St. Nicks, which temporarily prevent me from laying mines on him or anyone else. Plus there's a limit on how many St. Nicks one can have attached to one's self, and most of the serial bombers already are maxed out (which I think is only like 5 or so). Gah. I hate every time I go to my profile, I get hit with a bomb. Also, every time I open a new tab and go back to my profile tab, I get the same thing. I am going through so much armor!

THAT was the last episode of the season??? They'd better be working on another, I say.

It was too linear, where others have at least one extra plot point... Booo. And fuck Richmond for getting scurvy. I wanted to see him again this season.

Relatedly, the rest of the season was bang on! I loved the FriendFace episode best, and in fact, had to reject a friend invite from my own mum just today. I am a monster.

diello: (space cases)

I asked my new friend Brendan to be my replacement Brendan (as in, best friend rochester adventure group Brendan) for chess. Everyone in "The Corner" are always playing with their Magic cards, and I just can't figure it out. I wanted to play something, too. So I asked out a new chess buddy, brought in Paul's chess board to school, and found myself engaged in some really good games with a tonne of fellows eager to play a REAL game, and not a card game.

I don't remember who I was playing against at the time (mander, maybe?), but when Brendan arrived, he looked at my pieces, and asked, "Hey, why is that horse still on the board?"
Hmm... I didn't notice, but I can take that horse no problem... So I took it. Brendan's a really smart guy. That's why I asked him to play chess with me.
Wait. Did he just say "Horse"? Oh shit.

And before I knew it, a bishop I didn't see had taken my queen.

I knocked Brendan on the ground, and made him my bitch the rest of the day. I deemed Alex (fudge'ums) my new favourite chess mate, I won my first game (ever) against Tim, I shared my master plan of a new way to play chess with Red-Headed-Charles (and he gave me some really clever pointers for getting it done right), and all of you guys have no idea who I'm talking about (that is, if you've even read this far).

Then Brendan, Nu-Ju, Sarah, Sam, JC and I went to Nu-Ju's house to watch the new Futurama movie. Then we got a gang together at the beach and everyone enjoyed the freeziness of the sand and a nice bonfire. And in between, we got lost several times, because of Brendan, and I forbade him to take shotgun the rest of the night.

Whoever read this far, you should come over to my place for a rousing game of chess.

Imagine FX is my favourite magazine because it deals in concept art for fantasy and sci-fi digital art, as well as concept art for general character and story development, and they have fantastic tips. They also have a Q&A section, which is the first thing I flip to upon getting the latest copy. It's my favourite section because they answer questions that a lot of people wouldn't think to ask but never knew they needed to know the answers. I pick up so many tips and secrets from this section.

Well, today, I got the latest issue (FINALLY! I've been waiting for it for, like, EVER), and I flipped to the Q&A section, and I see a side profile of an eye, and I thought, OH GOOD! Someone's going to show me how to draw eyes in profile! And I looked, and it was ME that asked the question!!!!

I almost forgot that I'd asked a few months ago how to draw eyes in profile, and I can't believe they published my question!!

YYYAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYY!

For my next feat, I shall produce total radness from my computer, and have my ART published in an issue :)

Dream
I dreamed of Wonderland University and will be working on a full-length animation, starting with the scene where Alice fails to enroll into The Mad Hatter's Infinity 101 (010101010101...) class because her teacup won't fit into the room.

projects
Charles and I will be working on animations galore in the coming weeks as well as a RIT late night teusday radio show (so RITers should maybe stop by for a visit and say hi).

My computer has bit the (hopefully not too) big one. It once again needs to be shipped to apple for logic board repairs. Hopefully, I won't lose anything, but I risk it every time, you know. I put three new programs for music editing/mixing fun, and then it crashes. I did get a very good show in last week at the station, though.

Work
Also, good news!! I may have a spectacular internship for next semester (which starts next week). Charles has met someone who has a publishing business, and needs an intern for InDesign goodness. It's right up my freaking alley and I am hoping to get some stuff together by tomorrow or Friday to kinda interview.

Random
Anyway, massive shopping spree this weekend, too. Old Navy, Wallyworld, trifts, foods, and Borders borders borders... I spent waaaay more than I should have.

I'm at my aunt's house in east palmyra. This is by far the biggest house anyone in my family has ever owned. But it's right by the train tracks. Like, a few yards from the tracks. Every time a train comes by I think about Josh's death. I wonder if I can get use to that. But the house is amazing.

And this is somehow the most normal Thanksgiving dinner I've ever been to in my family.

...........

I need testimonies about me for my webpage (my cheap cop-out way to do a more interesting bio page). I need all of you to tell me what you think of me...
as a person
or artist
or writer
or friend
or enemy
or crazed villian from a disney cartoon
or whatever.

Or I can grab some quote you may have said to me in the past and use that. I want as many as I can get.

So if you have a moment, leave a testimony in the comments with your name (or what handle/alias you'd like me to use on my webpage) and I will be eternally grateful. Thankful, even, since this is thanksgiving day.
