I love the curlicue on the bow!!! :D!

I've always wondered (watching the cake challenges and whatnot on the Food Network)--what does fondant feel/taste like? Is it like icing once it dries? Or do you just not eat the fancy fancy cakes that are designed with fondant?

The fondant is just like play-dough. It's sticky and dry at the same time.
I haven't tasted the boxed stuff ever before, but I hear it is almost unbarable to eat (but some people do eat it). The bow and curly cues are made with the boxed stuff, and the white stuff is made with a special recipe using marshmallows (I haven't tasted it yet, but people say it's very good).

So, a cake covered in fondant is strictly for show and not for noms?

No it is definitely for noms. But some people will just peel off the fondant and eat the cake.
