LOS ANGELES - Funk singer Rick James, best known for the 1981 hit "Super Freak," died Friday, apparently of natural causes, police said.

James, 56, died at 9:45 a.m. at a residence near Universal City, said Officer Esther Reyes, a Police Department spokeswoman.

"He died apparently of natural causes. We learned of his death after responding to a radio call," Reyes said.

After his big hit, James' fame began to fade as he became embroiled in legal problems and health troubles.

James was convicted in 1993 of assaulting two women. The first attack occurred in 1991 when he restrained and burned a young woman with a hot pipe during a cocaine binge at his house in West Hollywood. He was free on bail when the second assault occurred in 1992 in James' hotel room.

James was sentenced to more than two years in state prison.

In 1997, he released a new album, but a year later he suffered a stroke while performing at Denver's Mammoth Events Center, derailing a comeback tour.

In 1998 he also underwent hip replacement surgery.

In other news, it was a rough morning at the hospital and at the end of it all, they said I'm showing VERY VERY early warning signs of diabetes. Not to say I'm in the danger zone quite yet, but I'm skating the edge of a normal blood-sugar reading. Apparently, I have a slight resistance to insulin (sp?). Worrysome, kinda, but not too much. I can still avoid it. They said if I don't take good care of myself, I'd end up with it about 20 years down the line. "So... I've got some time?" I replied. I was feeling mighty yucky, so I just went home. I wanted to go see Sam, and see if [livejournal.com profile] coffingirl was home. But I was just so dead tired. I went right home and passed out. Missed dinner. Got a migrain instead.

I picked up my stack of comics, which kept me entertained the whole night, since there weren't any good movies on TBS. The best I got was The Professional on amc and Little Nikki on fox.
They make SILENT HILL the comic book! You bet your hot little ass I picked those up. They were okay. The art was pretty cool. Also picked up AUTUMN #1 and Too Much Coffee Man.

And today, I stopped off at Barnes and Noble to find the Invader ZIM dvd for mum's birthday next week, but they didn't have it, so I indulged my senses and picked up Verde's Il Trovatore, my favorite opera EVER! I can't wait to listen to it.

So now you know, rick james is dead, I like comics and opera, and I'm a compulsive spender.
Cheers!

No worries, luvvie. I don't even expect to be alive in 20 years.
But on the bright side, no more guinea pig medical studies for a while! YAY!

You liked Silent Hill, eh?

I like d the first couple issues but it kinda went crappy I thought. Hopefully the movie is better. And Silent Hill 4 is out in september. looks pretty hot. As long as 4 is better than 2 I'm happy. Two sucked farts.

Hope you feel better and read better comics.

Freaks of the Heartland is pretty sweet. Steve Niles, the overexposed bitch, writes that too.

I'll have to check that out. I grabbed the second and fifth SH comic. The art in the 5th was better, but I liked the story in the 2nd more. I got them for the art anyway. I won't be getting the rest.

As for the movie, it will inevitably suck, but I'll see it anyway. I'm unhealthily excited for the 4th game, though :)

"I'M NOT RICK JAMES, BITCH!"

Anyway. Yeah, if you hear of any good movies coming on, let me know. Through Livejournal. Or smoke signals. Whateva rattles your chain, y'know.

pleasantville was on this morning. I think it's on again later. I'm not sure, but I think I saw that the Matrix will be on before Tomb Raider tonight... and that's it so far.

The 4th game comes out in september, and they're making a movie (which will inevitably be shitty).
