Oh man, I had a similar experience, except I only had scotch to ease my pain. I put in a pair of REALLY old contacts (like, back from '00) two years ago, and I wondered why it looked like I left the burner on... everywhere I went. I was on a road trip, and by the time I found a bathroom so I could take the contacts out and wash up my eyes, they were so sensitive to the light that I couldn't open my eyes to get them out (but after about an hour of struggle, and with the help of my traveling companion, I finally did). I could still barely open my eyes, and when we got to where we were going, I was setting up my tent practically blind. The next day, I had to stay under shades because my eyes were so swollen. Then nighttime came, and I could open my eyes enough to go to a scotch-tasting party. Woke up with the worst hangover ever, but my eyes were all better. I do put drops in my eyes in the morning when I sleep with the contacts in, but I know, I should really be better to my eyes.
