Web-Free Weekend
Feb. 6th, 2015 12:58 pmMy vices are getting the best of me again. Facebook, tumblr, my game apps, hell, my entire phone, absorbing my Smart, and making me Dumb. That's why they call it a smart phone. I haven't read an entire chapter of any of the books I'm trying to read, in weeks. A comic that should have taken me two or three days has been tossed aside and the rough just yesterday got 99% finished (enough to start inking). The apartment is getting grungy again, and the art projects I've started are beginning to collect dust, and scatter through various stations around the house.
I need to focus. I need to use my sun lamp, but I haven't felt depressed so much as I've been feeling lazy, but by the end of the night, I am almost crying because I've done nothing with the day, due to being so lazy, and I have to wonder if I'm confusing my depression with being lazy, and do need to use the sun lamp.
On the upside, I'm really starting to get back into making my own comics! I did an Hourly Comic (for Hourly Comics Day, which was Sunday, and I did one from 10:30am to 10:30pm, which I drew during the Super Bowl party I attended*. It's not great, or exciting, but I really like it! I posted a few shots of it throughout the day on Instagram, but hadn't officially finished it til yesterday, and this weekend, I'm going to focus on inking it and making it look good (I know that's not the spirit of doing the comic in a day, but I am starting this whole thing fresh, so I need the practice ;)
I'm going to spend the weekend away from the internet, except to upload any pictures I might take, or if I put something on my list that requires internet, of course. But my big problem is Facebook. It's sucking the life out of me. I wish there was a "status/pictures only" filter, to take away some of the links that just lead to more and more links. This is why it's my vice. Facebook is my biggest addiction.
Some things I want to do this weekend include:
Practice the violin (I've been lacking so much, and I'm trying to learn a couple of new techniques, so the laziness/depression is really not helping me there).
Finish a February display for my doll (started making her a table, but stupidly used a nail where I should have used a screw, and now the nail won't budge).
Freshen up my nail polish (might save this for Monday or Tuesday).
Take a bath and shave my legs (holy crap, I need a relaxing bath, and I haven't shaved my leg-amazon all winter).
Clean the bedroom and living room (this means preparing the bedroom for getting back to exercise-ready, and also doing a bit of spring cleaning re: my art supplies).
Finish my hourly comic, and prepare for the next comic (hopefully my First Date story, which I'd ideally like to turn into a full ashcan).
Catch up with Pen-Pals (I haven't had the energy to even read one of the letter's I've gotten, and it's from January).
Laundry (I have an interview on Wednesday, and I need my BEST work attire to be clean - plus, I'm out of clean underpants).
Mentally prepare for my interview. Oh. My. Science. I have an interview**
Catch some movies (Squirm tonight, maybe, and Song of the Sea this weekend).
There's other things. I don't know. Catch up on podcasts. Shop for stuff. Whatever.
Making these lists help. Making them public, stuck online, help too. Because now I have to be a lot more accountable.
*I attended not only my first Super Bowl party, but this was the first time I've ever watched football in my life. I had a great time with friends who helped me to understand the game a little bit better. I was tasked with making a wager-board, where we all wagered on what would happen (who'd win the coin toss, would it be heads or tails, would the Anthem be shorter or longer than 2min2sec, first touchdown, first fumble, will the first commercial involve animals, will Katy's first song be Roar, that sort of thing. Winner got a piece of candy. I lost, but I got a piece anyway ;)
**Over holiday break, I applied for a full-time gig here at the college, as tech support for faculty (I'm currently part time tech support for students). My interview is on Wednesday the 11th. My boss Andy got put on the hiring committee, so he can no longer prep me for what to expect. I haven't had an interview in many years, and I have never been put in front of a committee.
