diello: (Crocodile Gena)
Well friends, my Summer of Fawn (SoF) has come to a close. I did some great things, some small things, and some in-between things. And still didn't get everything done, but that's okay, because I'm not rushing against the clock anymore. I don't have to do things before classes start, because I'm done with school! MCC started back up on Tuesday this week, and it's been a mad rush at work (not as much as previous years, thankfully). And I'm glad to not be a part of the student body anymore. Those hallways get hot in the between-classes rush!

My summer accomplishments (or near-accomplishments) start with work on my favourite teacher Franzie's website. I worked between other things all summer on it, and it's almost finished. I have one small page to finish, as well as figuring out the best way to put a "mature content" warning on the art page. I will reveal it when it's on his domain (right now I'm hosting it on a hidden part of my site, so I can see it real-time while I edit). I wish I could show you his work right now, because it is amazing!! If you ever see me at the MCC library, though, I'll point you to one of his pieces located in the area.

Next up are parties. I wanted to go out and do more things with real life people this summer, but it didn't always work out. Some friends were only available while I was at work, some friends were at work while I was free... it goes that way sometimes. I will admit that I missed out on a few events due to being drained from work and just wanting some downtime. I have attempted saying YES to every invite, but I have severely burned myself out after a couple weeks of non-stop action. Moderation. Parties attended were OCHO (my friend Ron's 17th annual picnic extraordinaire, which I looked forward to all summer), the Park Ave festival (attended with myself on day 1, and Ron on day 2), Meagan's going-away-to-Jolly-Olde-England party (for several months), and some random cafe/bar outings. I only made it to one Wednesday Night Movie at Lux (as opposed to last year, when I went to almost all of them) to see Cabin in the Woods.

I did a lot of cleaning and organizing in the living room, as well as a little classical shelf-building after an IKEA shelf collapsed on itself (freshly built out of the box, thankfully, before anything was put on it). I attempted to clean the bedroom, but got distracted by all the cool stuff. TODAY WILL BE THAT DAY maybe.

I also made some art all summer (more on that in the next section). One piece was even featured by the director of one of my favourite movies! The movie is "Lo" by Travis Betz. I did a fan art of The Demon Jeez, and he posted it a couple times on his various blogs, and even featured it on his vlog A Drink With Travis! SO EXCITING!!! I'll have more "fan darts (as he accidentally called it)" for him soon!

Saw some movies and shows: Monster University (good), Despicable Me 2 (not so good), Riddick (amazing!!!), Orange is the New Black (not as good as advertised, but still good), Broadchurch (really good), as well as some older stuff on Netflix. This weekend, I'll be watching two of Travis Betz's films (which I ordered this week) called The Dead Inside (which hasn't arrived yet, but I've heard is a zombie love story musical), and Joshua (which arrived yesterday, and I know nothing about).

Meant to read more books (well, technically, I did read more than I usually do during school, but you know), but I am satisfied with my attempt. Finished Voltaire's Call of the Jersey Devil, namely, some graphic novels, and some teacher suggestions (The Bookseller of Kabul, and R.U.R.). Next on the list are finishing up The Windup Girl (another teacher suggestion), Horns (before the movie's official release in October), and Gun Machine (which I've been putting off forever).

Also listened to Welcome to Night Vale. The best radio drama podcast in the world. And I'm in love with Cecil and Carlos. Perfect Carlos.

My plans for September are to mostly make more art and get healthy. I am also joining the Y gym down the block, and want to be down a couple stones by year's end. Want to clean the rest of the house, want to keep up with a routine of keeping it clean, and I want to take all-around better care of myself.

I want to make a splash in the art scene too! A bigger splash! I am practicing more. I spent most of the summer doing Brown Paper Bag drawings (all of which can be seen on my facebook and my tumblr). Some of the brown paper bag drawings are specific characters from [livejournal.com profile] mooncalfe's Wet Moon series, which I draw on their birthdays. The characters I've done so far are Malady, Audrey, and Zia (next is Fall). Toward the end of August, I finally finished this Copic commission I'd been sitting on for a long time. And that opened the floodgates of getting back into marker art! Oh how I love my Copic markers...

I am planning to submit a comic page (or two) to "The Thurst" zine for women, and to submit a storyline and preliminaries to the new "Smut Peddler" comic anthology (but I can't think of any sexy stories!!). Smut Peddler II is a professional comic anthology, which features sex-positive erotica. I have to think about sexy sexy stuff way more than I usually do to come up with a good story :\

Lastly, I'd like to really enjoy the coming Fall season with some delicious hot drink & slow-cooker recipes, and drinking/eating them outside with a good book.

Today's schedule: get hair dyed (black) and maybe styled/cut. Possibly a book symposium at the armory. Read and respond to letters from pen-pals. Start sketching new art (marker). And continue on the never-ending journey of cleaning the damn house.
