Toronto Comicon
May. 2nd, 2005 12:30 pmWe had so much fuuuunnnn!!!!
Day 1
So we got there in the early afternoon hours and checked into our 32nd floor hotel ROOM WITH A VIEW at the Sheraton. Then went for food down Queen St. We hit this fabulous vegetarian place called Fresh. I got an amzing dish called "the beach" and we split a "dragonfly" smoothee. Then continued to shop around Queen St.
We went back to the hotel, napped, went back out, and came back to the building and decided against coming back up again and went walking around the entertainment district. We tried and tried finding a place that sold swimsuits so I could go swimming with Alan, but nooooo, the mall was no help, and everything closed at 9 or 10. Oh well. We came back around 11 or 12, watched some TV and went to sleep in the most comfortable king-sized bed ever.
Day 2
Day 2 involved walking around Queen and Spadina, and I knew that the moment I stepped onto Spadina, I would go on a shopping spree. That's where the Asian Market was. I got my souveniers there. Got mum a silk pillow, my sister a little koi fishy keychain and a pair of shoes I got for half price when I bought myself a COMFORTABLE pair of shoes. and I got
vashsbitch a little something, too! For myself, I got some caligraphy brushes, a fan, and a pair of shoes, which I already mentioned.
Then we went back to the hotel to drop off my load and started bleeding. So I had to go to the hotel drugstore for a 9 dollar 12 pack of unmentionables. And it was off to the Comic Con. We took the subway, then a streetcar, and we got off at the wrong stop, so we had to walk a couple miles, AND as soon as we got off the car, my monster cramps kicked in. Joy. Alan wanted to go back so I could suffer in private, but no way man. We were already almost there. So we stopped at a gas station to get tablets and chocolate.
The Con
We got there and immediately got a huge load of free stuff. I got a giant Aeon Flux the movie poster and a same sized War of the Worlds poster. Lots of other free stuff. I got some double things for my darling Brian, who couldn't come. And got lots of autographs, though none that I originally came for.
Let me stop and say this about the autographs: Bill Seinkiewicz had NO concideration for his fans. He would literally spend hours sketching one piece for someone and not even look up and let a couple people who just wanted an autograph get one. I got cut off when it was finally my turn so he could go to his award ceremony, and the second time was a similar story. I waited for an hour in the same spot (two from the front of the line) while he shot the shit with a photographer and sketched (but not at the same time, mind you. He'd stop sketching to talk and not sign anything).
Warren Ellis had a line from front to back, and he got through everyone in a reasonable amount of time. So after that hour, I gave up and left.
The other autograph I wanted was Amanda Conner's, who worked on The Pro, which I loved. I saw her around, but she looked busy so I didn't approach her. I never saw her at a table, so I didn't even know where to find her. And I never found her.
But I got many other autographs of cool people. I got David Mack's autograph on a Kabuki print and on a Kabuki comic. He's so amazing. So was the guy next to him doing caligraphy paintings in ink.
I got Kean Soo's autograph. He's the last of the Pants productions family, I guess.
I got a signed comic and print of another artist who's name escapes me, who did a comic called Dorothy Gale.
And I got a couple comics signed by Willow Dawson, an awesome girl who I talked to for quite some time about Jill Thompson, Bill S. and other comic cons and random stuff. She was very awesome and pretty ^__^
Then we took the car and subway back to the hotel, watched some tv and slept.
Day 3
We checked out of the hotel, got everything into the car and took one last trip down to the asian market so I could find a bento box, which I didn't find, but oh well. Then we went to a vegan resteraunt called Fressen, I think, and had our last meal before saying goodbye and going back to Rochester.
What a blast. It was so much better than last time. The company was much more pleasant :)
